Projahnmo Research Foundation Showcases Climate and Respiratory Health Research at RESPIRE Annual Scientific Meeting 2026

Kuala Lumpur, 14-17 September 2026: —A team from Projahnmo Research Foundation (PRF), Bangladesh, participated in the Final Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) 2026 of the NIHR Global Health Research Unit on Respiratory Health (RESPIRE), held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The meeting brought together researchers, collaborators, and global health partners from across the RESPIRE network to share research experiences, discuss scientific progress, and reflect on the achievements and future legacy of the programme. The meeting was hosted by Universiti Malaya and the University of Edinburgh.

At the meeting, PRF researchers presented work from projects focusing on climate change, environmental exposures, and respiratory health in Bangladesh across different population groups, including adults and young children, conducted with support from the NIHR RESPIRE programme.

Dr. Rezwana Tabassum presented preliminary findings on the associations of climate change and air pollution with lung function and respiratory disease patterns among adults in Bangladesh, and Dr. Ahad Mahmud Khan presented the research on climate variability and acute respiratory infection among children under five.

In addition to the scientific presentations,Dr. Salahuddin Ahmed participated as a panelist in the session “A Synthesis Session: The RESPIRE Journey – from Vision to Legacy”. The session provided an opportunity to reflect on the development of the RESPIRE programme, its collaborative achievements, capacity strengthening, and the continuing value of respiratory health research in low- and middle-income countries.

Through collaboration with RESPIRE and other national and international partners, Projahnmo Research Foundation continues to strengthen research capacity and generate evidence aimed at improving respiratory health and informing future research, public health planning, and health-system responses in Bangladesh.
