Enhanced community case management to increase access to pneumonia treatment.
This was a clustered-randomized, multi-country trial to assess effectiveness of enhanced community case management of pneumonia in <5 children at community clinics. The overall goal of the project was to rigorously assess the benefits of an “enhanced” approach to community case management for pneumonia, contributing to the evidence base for revision of WHO/UNICEF integrated community case management (iCCM) protocol and its harmonization with the integrated management of childhood illness (IMCI) tool, and using lessons learned during implementation to help accelerate subsequent program scale-up. The “enhanced” iCCM for pneumonia is the standard iCCM approach PLUS

This study was conducted by a partnership with Save the Children. Save the Children implemented the intervention and we conducted the evaluation. As per the study protocol, we completed the data collection of the baseline and endline surveys to assess the care seeking pattern in mothers of under-five children in some selected areas of Barisal district of Bangladesh. We are currently working to analyze the survey data and prepare the final survey report.
The study was funded by the Save the Children Federation (World Health Organization was the prime sponsor).
