Implementation research to support MOHFW to implement its national guidelines of management of infections in young infants in two rural districts of Bangladesh.
This was an evaluative implementation research study designed to support the Bangladesh Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s (MOHFW) revised young infant (0-59 days old) sepsis management guidelines at union level health and family welfare centers. The study was implemented in Sylhet Projahnmo areas and Ramgonj sub-district of Lakshmipur district where MaMoni program is supporting the MOHFW to implement the intervention.
Our study team completed data collection in August 2016. Over the course of the one year implementation research study, two workshops were organized. These workshops aimed to bring together implementation and study partners, district level officials, and stakeholders at the central level in order to share findings related to both successes and challenges that arise during the process of implementing the new guidelines. Through these workshops, participants shared early learnings from implementation support and evaluation activities, and work together to develop solutions to better support the implementation of the new guidelines. The final stakeholder meeting was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh in September 2016 where challenges were discussed among study partners, members of the MOHFW, and local providers.
We are currently working to analyze both quantitative and qualitative data and prepare manuscripts. Early findings were shared with the officials in the Bangladesh MOH&FW and local providers involved in study implementation at the September 2016 meeting in Dhaka.
The study was funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
