Prof. Mohammod Shahidullah
Prof. Dr. Mohammod Shahidullah is a professor (retired) of neonatology. He has spent most of his career reducing child mortality, particularly in the areas of newborn health. He has extensive experience in education, training, public health research, and policy advocacy. In 2009 he joined Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical university (BSMMU), the premier medical university of Bangladesh, as the professor of neonatology and served there until his retirement. Before joining the university, he served MOH, Bangladesh with different capacities of health service delivery system. During the period of more than 13 years with BSMMU, he developed neonatology department, served as the Chairman of the department, and as the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the institute. His leadership had been instrumental in actively engaging key stakeholders of newborn health together including MOH. This group has been successfully provided strategic guidance for policy/guideline formulation and it’s implementation in the context of improved MNCH survival. He is actively engaged with several national and international bodies/committees with different capacities. Currently he is the chairman of National Technical Working Committee (NTWC) on Newborn Health, National Technical Advisory Committee on COVID 19, President of Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS), Bangladesh. He has conducted pioneering research related to newborns, child and maternal health. His milestone research such as SATT Trial, Chlorhexidine research, HBB research and national scale up, ACTION I trial etc, with WHO, Projahnmo and others has that influenced national and global policies and programs in the context of improved newborn and child survival. He has authored more than 100 scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journal and many other reports, working papers and policy briefs. Currently he is PI with several WHO coordinated studies with Projahnmo on newborn and child health. He has keen interest in medical education, and he is examiner in post graduate courses of pediatrics and neonatology. He has mentored numerous public health professionals. He serves as the Chief Editor, Journal of Bangladesh Perinatal Society (BPS), Member, Advisory Board, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Journal.
