Pallab Bhattacharjee (Ph.D.)
Dr. Pallab Bhattacharjee has joined as a Field Research Officer-Lab at Projahnmo Research Foundation for the project titled “GSK RSV Vaccine Trial” on 01 August 2021.
Dr. Bhattacharjee’s early fascination to be a good scientist, combined with his passion and interest in life sciences inspired him to seek admission at Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU), where he started his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. At SAU, adequate facilities, dedicated faculty, and a wide spectrum of courses have given him good command of the fundamentals of life science.
He obtained MS (2017) in Biotechnology from the Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), Bangladesh. He went to Beijing, China as a GSCAAS scholar and did Ph.D. (2021) at Mycovirus Research Laboratory, Institute of Plant Protection, and Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
In MS research work, as a pioneer member of the research team, Dr. Bhattacharjee focused on Determination of Genetic Identity and Origin of Wheat Blast in Bangladesh by applying novel field pathogenomics and open data sharing approaches (www.wheatblast.net). Open data sharing was previously practiced only once in the USA for tackling the Zika virus. He also worked as a Research Associate in several external funded projects including one funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Over the years of his MS, he has gathered ample experience in handling Microorganisms with several molecular techniques including, isolation of pathogenic fungus, extraction of DNA, PCR, gel electrophoresis, setting up field experiments, and implement it as planned, and interpretation of genomic data.
In his Doctoral research work, He was served as a research assistant in the project entitled ‘Molecular detection of Mycoviruses from Pathogenic Fungus Fusarium sibericum’ supported by the National Key R&D Program of China. The Key responsibility was isolation and identification of fungus from diseased plant tissue, Virus particle Isolation, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), DNA and RNA extraction, cloning, Bioassay in the greenhouse to field level, Gene expression study, and Genomic data analysis. He is also an expert in project management, monitoring, and evaluation. Throughout his Doctoral study, he discovered a novel RNA mycovirus (FsCV1) and multi-component single-stranded DNA virus (FsGMTV1) with a clear host from Fusarium sibiricum strain AH32. During his doctoral study, Dr. Bhattacharjee was awarded Beijing Municipal Government Fellowship for his excellent research and Academic activities.
His immense interest and fascination in research on Microbiology including genomics and proteomics have resulted in major contributions to a number of research, review, and blog-posts publications with a significant number of citations (Google scholar) as well as participation in several relevant International conferences and workshops. Some of his research articles also going to publish in near future.
His email address is pbhattacharjee@prfbd.org and he is available on WhatsApp and Viber at +8801734327333. Dr. Bhattacharjee also available in ResearchGate , ORCID and Loop .
